Hanoi weather is classified as humid subtropical, sharing its patters with the rest of the North Vietnam region. Characterized by northern monsoons and the inflow of cold air coming in from China, Hanoi enjoys cooler weather conditions. Weather in Hanoi is also typified by abundant amounts of precipitation. Summers are hot and humid, and winters are relatively cool and dry.
Hanoi weather during Summer
Summer season in Hanoi falls between the months May to September, June being the hottest, During this time of the year, Hanoi weather is characterized by hot and exceptionally humid temperatures reaching a maximum of 35°C.Summer is also the monsoon season when the country is subjected to southeasterly winds. The majority of annual precipitation falls during May to September with amounts reaching 1,680 mm. Annual rainfall is higher in the highlands especially those facing the sea, around 2000-2500mm.
Hanoi weather during Winter
Hanoi weather during winter (November to March) is cold and relatively dry. Temperatures can on occasion drop to as low as 6°C – 7°C. The occasional frost and snow may appear on the highest mountains in the northern regions, but only for a few days a year. January is the coldest month with prevailing cold north-easterly winds.
From Oct to April, the north monsoon prevails with northerly to northeasterly winds affecting the country. There is a transition period between each monsoon season when winds are light and variable.
